Pin Me For Later. You Will Want To Come Back!
Do you find yourself looking at other mommas’ blogs and think “I wish I could do that.”
You’ve probably read a couple of different mom blogs, stalked a few facebook groups, and hung out on Pinterest more times than you can count.
Well, let me tell you something. Starting your own blog is easier than you think. (And did I mention you can do it for free?)
My blogging journey began in March of 2018. It’s been over a year now and starting a mom blog was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
I love blogging so much, that’s why I decided to leave my corporate career behind and blog full time as a stay at home mom.
This is great for me and my family. Why? Because I have two young men who have just entered puberty (tweens). They need their momma right now more than ever.
Not to mention the after-school programs and football games they want to participate in.
Both of my boys play football. There’s practice every day after school.
They need this mamma chauffeur to be there to take them where they need to go and pick them up when they are finished.
I don’t have to pay a sitter or worry about if I’m going to get off of work on time to pick them up from practice.
Blogging full time, I can stay at home, make an online income, and be there for my boys. Do you want that kind of lifestyle too? I know you do.
You can stop working for “the man” and start making money on your blog as long as you are willing to learn how to start a blog and put in the effort to see your ambition through to the end.
If you are not sure that blogging can supplement your current income, check out these bloggers who once stood in the same spot as you. They grew their blog from zero income to thousands each month.
Starting a blog is easy. It’s quick and you don’t need to know a whole bunch of tech or coding. Believe me. Coding gives me a headache and I couldn’t hold a conversation with a techie if I tried.
I was still able to start a blog with WordPress for free in less than 10 minutes.
Before we get started, there are some decisions you will need to make.
Find Your Niche
Before you start a blog, you need to have some general idea as to what you want to write about. What do you want to share with others?
For example, CynthiaBrandel.com is about offering practical solutions to the working mom. I offer advice on how to balance your life with your full-time career through intentional living.
But, CynthiaBrandel.com didn’t start out with this direction. I was just like you, with no real path, stumbling along until I found out where I should go.
It’s okay to not know exactly where you will end up, but you do need a general idea of where you want to start.
Why Do You Need A Niche?
If you are blogging for traffic or hoping to turn your blog income into a stream of income, you will need to draw in a specific audience. Narrowing your focus down to a particular area will help you to grow you following quicker.
Your followers will also remember your blog for its purpose.
Think about the blogs you frequently stalk. Why do you go back? What is it they are offering that keeps drawing you in?
This is the feeling you need to give to others if you want to blog full-time.
How Do You Find Your Niche?
Finding your niche isn’t hard. What are you passionate about? Are you knowledgeable about a certain subject? Is there something you feel you want you are called to share with the world?
Look at your hobbies? Are there any that you can share with others and write about for a long time?
Before you decide on your niche, find out if there is a way to monetize it.
As much as I love blogging, I still need to pay my bills. If you are serious about quitting your day job and working from home, you need to monetize your blog and pull an income from your niche.
For some bloggers, this may be doing sponsored posts or affiliate marketing. For others, they offer a service.
For CynthiaBrandel.com, I use a combination of eBook sales and affiliate marketing. You can stalk my resources page to find out about the affiliates I use and the resources that have brought me the most success.
Choose A Platform For Your Blog
Not to mention, you can start a WordPress blog for free.
So, if you are unsure the blogging world is for you, this FREE WordPress option might be just for you.
I love WordPress and wouldn’t use any other platform for my blog.
Reasons To Love WordPress:
WordPress gives you loads of options to customize your site with plugins and hundreds of themes to choose from (both paid and free).
WordPress is easy to use and there are loads of tutorials floating around on YouTube and forums to help you solve any problem you may come across.
What Is Blog Hosting And Do I Need It?
Some bloggers go the paid route and choose to host their WordPress site using a blog host like Siteground.
There are both pros and cons to using outside hosting.
If you are interested in taking this route, I suggest you check out Siteground. They are a highly rated host with lots of positive reviews.
How Do You Choose A Domain Name?
This is the fun part.
Let your creativity flow and play around with your blog’s name.
But, before you come to a final decision, is the name you choose easy to remember? Does it coincide with your niche?
You don’t have to include your niche in the name, but your blog will rate higher with SEO if you do.
Look at my blog—CynthiaBrandel.com—-this doesn’t include anything about work-life balance or intentional living.
There are a few blogs out there that I stalk regularly, like Rachel Stephen, A Girl And Her Blog, and Little Coffee Fox. Each blog is about something entirely different from their name, but I remember each one for their uniqueness.
Build Your Blog With WordPress
Starting a FREE blog with WordPress is easy.
CynthiaBrandel.com started out as a FREE blog until it grew into something more. I had no problems setting up my blog with WordPress.
As I stated earlier, you can choose to go the paid route and use a blog host, like SiteGround, but it is not necessary.
Follow along with me. Click on over to WordPress in a new tab and you will have a FREE blog up and running in less than 10 minutes.
WordPress makes the process quick and painless.
Fill in your blog’s name, what your blog is about, your goals and then click continue.
Choose A Domain Name. You will be given a list of names that are for the paid options. You don’t have to choose those if you don’t want to.
If the domain name you have chosen shows up with numbers behind it, then someone else has already chosen it. Modify your domain until you choose one that has not been used before.
When you find one it should be yourdomainname.wordpress.com
Now you can choose the free plan or upgrade to a paid version.
