Day 3

Word Count: 5077

Writers write daily.

writing tips & hacks

I didn’t want to write today.  Work sucked and I was tired.  Overall, it was just not a good day.  There was nothing more I want to do than curl up in bed with a glass of wine and binge one of my favorite dramas.  I didn’t want to write.  I didn’t want to think.  I just wanted the world to stand still and let me catch my breath.

But, I’m a writer.  It’s November and I have dedicated myself to completing NaNoWriMo.  So, I wrote even when I didn’t feel like it.  I met my word count, but I’m going to admit I feel like I just wrote a bunch of garbage.  Utter and complete trash!

I wasn’t feeling the scene and the way the events played out was too mundane.  In this particular scene, I needed to get Lizzy to meet Dreven, but how was I supposed to introduce him in a way that would draw the reader to want to know more about him?

Dreven is the antagonist/love interest/ eventual hero (possibly).  I want him to make a firm impact on the reader right from the start.  But how?  The scene played out where Lizzy and her dad were having dinner.  I mentioned that Lizzy’s culinary skills are sub-par, which is something I will hit again later in the novel.  To introduce Dreven there was a knock on the front door and in he walks.

There you go.  No spectacular entrance.  No wow factor.  Just “Hi, I’m here!” Needless to say, this type of entrance was not going to work for me, but I was too tired to care.  So, I wrote trash and I kept it.  On Day 4, I planned to sort the garbage and turn it into treasure.
