Tag Line: A Twist to the Classic Dragon-Human Romance
Story Line Overview: Ryn lives in a world oppressed and dying land called Verald. The King uses his Drae (a dragon shifter), Lord Irrik, to overthrow the rebel scum threatening to end his rule. Ryn just happens to be one of those rebels. She is caught out after dark by Lord Irrik, but instead of capturing her or devouring her, he tells her to get home.
His act of kindness started a whirlwind of events that would change Ryn’s life forever. The death of her mother, enslavement by the King, torture on an unimaginable scale. Ryn survived through it all. Ryn discovers that she is more than just human and possibly the answer to Irrik’s lonely existence.
My review: This story has a good twist to the classic dragon and human romance. I like the fact that Ryn didn’t fall for Irrik right from the start. Even through all her struggles, she stood her ground and made her feelings about him known (the good and the bad). I like how Irrik, although he started out as the antagonist, changed into the hero of the story. I couldn’t guess the ending until I finally got there. This was a delightful read.
I would recommend this story to anyone who loves the Protected by Dragons Series, The Four Horsemen Series, and The Sanctorian Series
