Title of Book: Pestilence (The Four Horsemen Book 1)
Author: Laura Thalassa
Main Character(s): Sara and Pestilence the Conqueror
First Published: March 2018
First Sentence: “They came with the storm.”
Last Sentence: “‘Pray for the world, dear Sara. War is coming.”
This is a romance unlike no other.
Story Line Overview: The four horsemen come to earth signaling the end of days. After their first siege against the world, they disappear. Five years later, Pestilence resurfaces bringing with him a plague like no other. Sara volunteers to give up her life for a chance to end the Horseman and save the plague survivors. She manages to “kill” the horseman but soon finds out that he is immortal.
Pestilence is set on revenge and takes Sara prisoner. Sara is forced to watch the people they encounter die by the plague. Through their travels, Pestilence and Sara come to understand each other. Pestilence learns about the good side of human nature. Sara learns about Pestilence’s internal struggle between doing what he is called to do and choosing to do what his heart desires.
My review: I loved this story from beginning to end. There were parts that I felt as I read. I even shed a few tears. Thalassa shows the good and evil side of human nature. Although some parts were gruesome, I just couldn’t put it down. Sara teaches Pestilence about the world—her world and she gets a small glimpse into the bigger picture of which only God knows.
